A nationally recognized and accomplished engineer in his day, Hugo Weimer ventured out on his own in the early 1920's and began an engineering design firm which specialized in the engineering of V-belt drive systems, as Mr. Weimer was instrumental in the invention of the v-belt sheave.
Knowing this technology so well, Mr. Weimer in 1930 began to distribute and manufacture power transmission components to and for industrial customers in the Milwaukee area. The business thrived, and Mr. Weimer, and his daughter, Jane, along with young man named Frank Stangl saw the company grow considerably. In 1958, the business was officially incorporated as the H.W. Weimer Company.
Mr. Weimer passed away in 1960, yet under the direction of Frank Stangl and Jane (Weimer) Kaiser, the company prospered and relocated to larger facilities in Milwaukee. The company operated as such until the untimely passing of Frank Stangl in 1976. Fortunately, his son Richard (Dick) had already entered into the business shortly before and he stepped in to operate the company with Jane Kaiser until her retirement in 1980. Upon her retirement, Richard Stangl purchased the controlling interest in Weimer and has operated as its CEO since.
From that point forward, Weimer's growth has been tremendous. In 1983, the name was changed to Weimer Bearing & Transmission, Incorporated to reflect our growing involvement in both power transmission and bearing technology.
In 1985 our corporate headquarters was relocated to Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. We have since added locations through both internal expansion and acquisition in the Green Bay/Fox Valley area (1988), Madison (1998), Wausau (2000), Rockford, Illinois (2003) and Eau Claire (2005). We have greatly expanded our machining and light manufacturing operations with the addition of CNC equipment and the expansion of speed reducer (gearbox) repair and assembly centers at several locations.
Throughout our growth, our commitment to total quality has never wavered. In 1994, Weimer Bearing achieved ISO 9002 certification, and we have subsequently been recertified each year.
Our commitment to quality in employees has also never wavered. We continue to recruit, hire, and train the very best and most qualified associates available. Due to a comprehensive training program that involves all employees, our employee turnover is exceptionally low. The next generation has also moved in to assist in the growth and operation of Weimer Bearing. In 1993, Richard's son, Frank Stangl joined the company full-time in a sales capacity, and now serves as our Vice President. His brother Dan Stangl joined the company full-time in 1998 and currently serves as our Purchasing Manager. Along with them, our management team is very actively involved the day-to-day operations of the company.
With the massive consolidation that has taken place in the Wisconsin bearing and power transmission industry, Weimer Bearing is positioned today as the last consistently privately-held and family owned company of our type in existence. To maintain that position, we have steadily added new and innovative products to our offering. We are now heavily involved in motion control and linear products, electrical and electronic systems, and specialty packaging and other industrial services. Also, as a founding member of the Independent Distributor's Cooperative (IDC-1988), we have the full buying power and recognition as the 3rd largest distribution entity in the United States, while still retaining our family ownership and local flexibility. This is a key attribute to properly servicing both our OEM and MRO industrial customers.
Our future is bright, and we will continue to grow and adapt with the changing needs of our customer base. We are firmly committed to excellence and professionalism in all facets of our business. Our growth and expansion plans are unlimited, and we intend to continue our mission of being the finest in our industry.
